The rain pounded on my car as I drove up the highway to my college. The sky was cloudy and it was rather chilly. I wanted to get back to the campus soon, or it would be too dark to see where I was driving. It had been a good visit back at mom and dad’s, but they had wanted to visit too long and I’d let time get away from me. It was 9 in the evening…and my housemates would probably be up watching TV or something. I didn’t want them teasing me about returning from home so late…because they’d done that before.
The guys I lived with had long put their family life behind them and very rarely visited their families at home. They often picked on me about visiting my family during certain weekends like this one. Because it was the weekend, I had decided to drive home to visit my mom and dad for a while. Unlike the guys, I missed them and I don’t get to see them very often, especially ever since I started college. They were happy to see me of course, but the fun had to end sometime. So here I was in the pouring rain, hoping that I wasn’t gonna get in trouble with the guys.

*ring* *ring*

“Speak of the devil…I’ll bet it’s one of the guys.” I grabbed for my cellphone, never taking my eyes from the road and I answered. “Hello, this is Adam.”
“Hey dude, it’s Calvin.” Calvin was the head of the ministry house that I stayed at. He was a nice guy and had opened up the house to me when I didn’t have a dorm to stay in. The house was designed to house just 5 guys and, though I made the fifth member of the house, it was a last minute thing and it made things inconvenient for the others, but Calvin had gone out of his way for me to have a place to stay this semester.
“Hey man, what’s going on?” I asked.
“Just wanted to let you know that we won’t be at the house when you get home.” Calvin answered.
“Why not?”
“The guys and I are headed out for a hunting trip for the week.” He explained. “We left about an hour ago, and I wanted you to know why the house would be empty.” I sighed at this news. Hunting was one of their favorite past times at the ministry house. I couldn’t say I was a huge fan of it myself, but I didn’t mind them leaving to do that. I just would have the house to myself for a week.
“Alright, well that’s fine.”
“So will you be meeting any girls while we’re gone?” Calvin teased. I blushed and groaned under my breath.
“Would you shut up, dude?” Calvin knew all too well that I had been looking for a girlfriend. He and most of the other guys were in relationships and I was the only one all by myself. They often liked to tease me about this, but Calvin always assured me that I could find a girl one day if I looked hard enough.
“Look man, I’m joking around…but trust me, I think you’ll meet someone. She’s out there somewhere.”
“Hiding under a rock, I’ll bet.”
“The first step is to step out of your comfort zone man.” Calvin said. “Just be yourself and-”
“I know, I know…thanks Calvin.” I answered. I’d heard this from Calvin before, and while I appreciated it, I wasn’t entirely sure when or if I ever could do these things.
“You mentioned one girl in your bio class.”
“Yeah, but it turns out she was already dating someone.” I groaned in reply.
“Well…have you tried scoping the library?”
“Look man, I have more important things to worry about right now.”
“Just looking out for you, bro.” Calvin assured me. I smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, thanks dude.”

“Well, I gotta get going now, but you take care man. See ya on Friday of next week!”
“Yeah, see ya.” I hung up the phone and went back to driving. I turned onto an empty road and was seeing the lights of the city behind me becoming more and more distant. I sighed and looked up at the moons…moons? Why were there two?

I leaned forward and noticed two large bright lights in the sky. One was clearly the moon, but the other was just as bright and hardly distinguishable. Was it a rock? Whatever it was, it was getting closer…and closer!
“OH GOD!” I swerved just in time to see the object shriek to the earth and smash into the forest not far off from where I was driving. Trees blew to splinters and I could see smoke rising from the wreckage. I brought my car to the side of the road, gripping my chest in which my heart was now racing uncontrollably. What had I just seen!? A satellite hitting the ground? A piece of a plane falling? A UFO? I climbed shakily out of my car to go get a closer look. The rain continued to fall upon my head and wet my jacket. I grabbed a flashlight from the side pouch of my car door and ran to the woods where the object had vanished.

The smell of burnt tree limbs could be smelled even before I could see the flames. The ground was tossed around and some of the sand and dirt had been turned to glass from the heat of the impact. Whatever it had been, it had come in with a HUGE velocity. I could feel a strange heat rising as I got closer and closer. I kept my eyes and light trained on the area where the object should have been, but no matter how hot it got or how close I thought I was, I didn’t see anything.
Soon, I came upon a spot where a giant crater was. The heat signature was through the roof and I literally could see steam rising from rain drops hitting the ground. Trees and splinters of wood littered the ground all over and rocks were torn back and lay scattered all around.
“What happened here?” I didn’t know who I was talking to, but I felt the words float from my mouth on instinct. A part of me wanted to climb into the crater to see what was down there, but the more I looked into it, the more I came to realize a startling truth. The object that I had seen come flying from the sky into the earth was…

“Gone!?”
It was true. There was nothing in the crater but what used to be earth and tree. The object was missing. Could it have rebounded and gone somewhere else? No way! But where had it gone? This was the only place it could possibly be. It was large enough and fast enough that it had caused what felt like an earthquake…so it being missing made no sense! “It can’t just have vanished…could it?”
I spent the next 15 minutes searching in and around the crash site, searching for any trace of the object that had caused it. However, the rain was picking up and I was getting cold and wet. My body was shivering from the cold and I knew that if I stayed out much longer I’d probably get sick. Though I desperately wanted to learn more, I knew that my home awaited. I hesitantly turned and hurried back to my car. “No one’s gonna believe this!” I jumped into the car, dripping wet and leaving puddles in the seat. I shook my shaggy dark hair to get the water out of it and I grabbed for my phone. I wanted to call my folks to see if they knew anything about this. I dialed their number, but as soon as I put the phone to my ear, I felt something odd.

“I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is not available at this time.”
“What?” I muttered. “That can’t be right.” I dialed Calvin’s number instead.
“I’m sorry, the number you have dialed…”
“You’ve gotta be kidding! Let’s try Sarah.”
“I’m sorry…”
“Aaron then?”
“I’m sorry…” I tossed the phone on the seat and growled. Something was blocking my connection, but I’d never had this problem before…what was going on here? It then suddenly hit me…the object? Could that have done something to the signal?! Soon my curiosity was replaced with fear. What could fall from the sky and disappear…and yet knock out phone signals? All of my thoughts and suspicions began to point to one horrifying and terrible conclusion:
“A UFO?” I whispered. “No. No it can’t be!” I tried to reassure myself. But every time I tried to tell myself it was something else, my common sense would be outmatched by my paranoia. “I need to go home and relax. This will all be behind me tomorrow.” I turned on the car and took off down the road, putting the wreckage and destruction as far behind me as I could. I tried to block it from my thoughts. I didn’t want to consider what I could have just witnessed.

I arrived back at the campus and grabbed my bags, running from my car to my small ministry house. It was a small building with a yellow paint job around it and a shingled roof. It had two dens, a small kitchen with a laundry machine and dryer in it. There were three bedrooms, one was for Calvin and Quinton, one was for Snappy and Tyler, and the last one was for me. It was a very small room and it had originally been Quinton’s room until Calvin moved Quinton into his own room so I could have space. It was nice and I had a room to myself. No troubles.
I walked into the house and stamped my feet on the carpet to get the clay off. My body, clothes, and hair were all soaked and I needed a shower in the worst way. But first, I had promised mom I’d call her before I did anything else. Would my phone work this time? I reached to my pocket to grab it and looked.
“Battery’s dead?” I groaned. “Really? Ugh…fine.” I walked to my room and flicked on the light, seeing my single bed on the left hand side of the room. On the right hand side was a dresser, a small TV, and a closet. Up against the far wall, facing the window was a desk for where I did my work. It was a simple room, and I loved it. I tossed my bad down and grabbed my phone charger, plugging it in. “Okay, Mom’ll have to wait for a few minutes. I’m getting a shower.” I threw off my clothes and hurried to the shower.
“So…a giant thing falls from the sky and lands in the woods, but it vanishes the instant I go to check it out.” I pondered aloud as I cleaned myself off. “But how can that be? Was it really a UFO crashing on Earth? Maybe I’ve just been watching too many sci-fi movies.” I stood, arms hanging against my sides as water trickled down my face and fingers. Deep down I knew that this would haunt me for a while. Was I going crazy? I shook my head and turned off the water, climbing out and reaching for a towel. I shivered at the cold air and began to dry off, walking out to my room.
“Just let it go, man.” I whispered to myself. I looked to see my phone was still charging. “No, don’t call her…just let this go. It’s behind you.” I reassured myself and wrapped my towel around my waist, walking to bags. The best thing for me to do would be to get some sleep and forget all about this.

*SLAM*

My head turned when I heard the backdoor slam just outside the kitchen. I was now seriously curious. “Who’s there?” I called out. There was no reply. “Tyler, is that you? I thought you’d gone hunting!” Again with no reply, I felt my heart skip a few beats. “Answer me right now! This isn’t funny!” I knew that if it was one of the guys, they were gonna pick on me for weeks about being scared by this mindless prank…but I wasn’t taking any chances. Too much strange had happened to me tonight. I grabbed a baseball bat out of Calvin’s room and silently crept toward the kitchen. My hands were shaking and I pressed my back to the wall, ready to turn and face what was in there. I heard the sound of grunting and shoving as somebody was opening cabinets and pantries.
A burglar! Someone had broken in and was trying to steal from us. I tightened the grip on the bat and I growled angrily, gritting my teeth. He’d get more than he bargained for. I nodded and whirled around, ready to strike! “GET OU-!” I froze in place and nearly dropped the bat.

Crouching down beside the refrigerator was not a burglar but what, at first glance, appeared to be a girl. She had long black hair that fell down past her shoulders and she seemed delicate and lovely like a normal girl. However, upon closer inspection, I noticed some very strange things about her.
I noticed that her ears were long and pointed like some sort of elf. Her body was soaking wet from the rain outside, I had no doubt, and she was also quite naked. Her skin color was a light pinkish color and only a little lighter than mine, and her eyes were a gorgeous and exotic green like I’d never seen. They looked beautiful and almost…otherworldly. They were quite large and her pupils and iris seemed to take up much of her eyes. However, the strangest part of her appeared as I looked lower. Sprouting from her rear was a rather long and very obvious tail that was swaying lazily around her ankles. When I looked at her ankles, they were sticking up, as she was balancing on what appeared to be long toes. I noticed that her legs looked like the knees were bent the wrong way, much like the hind legs of a horse or a goat, only her feet and legs looked normal otherwise! This girl was clearly not normal! The girl and I finally locked eyes and we could only stare at each other in wonder. And we both did the first logical thing we could think of.

We both screamed in horror.
This was a new story idea that I had for a while...but I was never sure how exactly to get it started, so it took me a long time to write it. I hope that you guys enjoy it because I personally have some mixed emotions about this chapter. I'm still dealing with my writers block and I'm still wondering if this turned out well. I'm sure that it's not my best, but I was tired of having this idea floating in my head and I don't come forward with it.

Please let me know what you all think! It was a fun one to write all the same. It just a bit harder to write than some of my others.
